Liverpool's James Milner says they approach their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona with confidence.

The sides set up a blockbuster showdown with quarter-final victories this week, Barcelona cruising to a 4-0 aggregate win over Manchester United while Liverpool brushed aside Porto 6-1 on aggregate.

And the teams will now lock horns in a potentially epic two-legged semi, which kicks off at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, May 1 before concluding at Anfield on Tuesday, May 7.

And Milner said: "We can beat Barca but we know it will be very tough.

"I've been there a couple of times in the knockout stages with [former club Manchester] City and not got the right result, so hopefully it is third time lucky for me.

"They are a strong team and it is a tough place to go, but I don't think they will have played too many teams with the style we play either.

"It will be very tough and we will have to be at our best but [it will be] tough for them too."

Liverpool are bidding to reach the final of the Champions League for a second year in succession.

And Milner thinks they are really benefiting from this continental know-how.

"Over the last couple of seasons, with the teams we have beaten in the Champions League, we should go [to Barcelona] with confidence, no matter how tough it is going to be," he added.

"I'm sure you can see in this year's run and in games when things haven't been going well, that we have got the experience.

"We have been there before and know how to get results."
